In 1967, nestled in the middle of the Emerald Estates Subdivision, Canby Lane Elementary opened its doors. To ensure meeting the needs of the total child, the Canby Lane staff, from the beginning, strived to ensure that children are presented with the most current information through the use of instructional guides for core curricula and supplemental programs. The staff also provides programs to meet the needs of exceptional children and students from diverse backgrounds. Providing varied and challenging programs, the school provides learning that allows students to develop academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. In 1994, Dekalb County Schools added a new wing to the existing building that included more classrooms and a music room. More recently, a physical education facility was added in 1999.
SCHOOL MISSIONThe mission of Canby Lane Elementary School is to provide students with a solid educational foundation upon which they can build a future as productive and responsible citizens in the global community.
